FORGOTTEN & UNDISTURBED Bob Chisholm

“The camera teaches us to see the world and share it with others as a hunter of images and life. Taking joy and sorrow, to see beauty and darkness all around us.”

-Bob Chisholm

Robert C. Chisholm was born on October 9th, 1945 in Burbank, California. He grew up in Van Nuys, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.

He graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Architecture and Fine Arts. He went on to design and build houses, apartment buildings and commercial buildings throughout California.

Fervently anti-war, Bob starved himself from 160 lbs. to 118 lbs to avoid the Vietnam War draft in 1964. After finishing a construction project the following year, he headed to Europe where he travelled extensively on a motorcycle, shooting photographs... and finding his true passions: photography, travel, history, reading, poetry and people.

For the next forty years he continued working in design/destruction/ development but always made time for his travels and artistic endeavors. His camera, sense of adventure, and interest in the unknown drew him across the world... to Asia, Europe, Russia, Africa, Central and South America.

He moved to San Francisco in 1977 where he had two sons with his wife. He extensively documented his life, family, trade and travels with his trusty Nikon and sometimes his pen.

He now lives a semi nomadic life. He can usually be found somewhere between Oregon, Chicago, and Ensenada, Mexico... perched on a beat up, nearly broken motorcycle... with a working camera around his neck.
